It’s a common misconception that you can get domains for dirt cheap or even free which is not realistic as it’s quite expensive to run a domain registrar business (legal fees, maintenance, employees, etc.).
Yes, some domain registration websites offer ‘amazing deals on domains,’ but most of them are honeypots to collect data and some even scams.

Number five on my list is 1and1.com, which offers the cheapest .com domains. It has quite a reliable service, and the price is excellent.

Google the term “cheapest domain registrations,” and you’ll find about 48,300,000 results!
That’s over 48 million domain websites (read: domain registrars, blog reviews, etc.) — and this can make it extremely overwhelming for anyone to sort through.
For this reason, I decided to write this section to talk about specific factors (or precautions) you need to watch out for a while investing in a domain name.
Factor #1: Renewal pricing
When you buy a domain, you buy it for a lifetime. So, it’s crucial that the pricing is not only cheap in the short-term (introductory price) but also in the long-term (renewal).
Sadly, It’s quite common for domain registrars to offer extremely low introductory pricing to reel in amateur webmasters. Then they significantly increase the pricing during renewal, and most users are trapped into paying 3x the market price.
So, make sure to watch out for not just the price at the start of the service but also what you will pay when the registration ends.
Pro tip: It’s a good idea to buy a more extended domain registration period at the start to take advantage of the introductory discounts.
Factor #2: Customer Support
Now, you won’t require much support for a domain as compared to hosting, but you will still need some. For example, when you’re transferring or when you’re trying to integrate a feature.
Moreover, if you’re on the non-technical side, you’ll most likely need a bit more support than someone who knows their way around a laptop (not for Facebook).
Additionally, I’d look for resources and ‘how-to’ guides and other relevant tutorials for faster support when it’s too tedious to contact support.
Factor #3: Relevant Accreditations
This is often never a factor people look out for, but it’s actually quite important. Some of the accreditations I recommend getting are:
- ICANN — a nonprofit that maintains the security of your domain on the web.

Again, you most likely won’t be going into your domain as much as your host, but it’s better to have a user-friendly domain dashboard.
This will save you a ton of time and make things easier when you do have to go under the hood of your domain for tasks (think: integrating search console, analytics, etc.).

1. The domain registrar should be ICANN-accredited.
ICANN is an organization that manages and monitors DNS (Domain Name System) to regulate domain name standards. It is a non-profit establishment, and it works to make the internet a secure place.
The full form of ICANN is Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. There are quite a few ICANN-accredited domain registrars, and it’s generally a good idea to choose from one of these.
2. Take a note of the domain transfer policy.
Even though a domain registration website might be the number one right now, sometime in the future, issues may arise, and you may have to switch to another service.
So, it’s essential to read the domain transfer policy of a registrar carefully. You should choose a service that lets you do cheap domain transfer and renewal.
The good news is that most of the domain registrars allow an easy and free transfer but only after a certain period, generally about two months.
However, some registrars don’t allow it ever. You should watch out for these.
Is a .com domain name really the best?
If you’re reading an article on best .com domain registrars, you most likely prefer a .com domain over other TLDs.
So, the question arises; Is a .com domain name really the best?
This is a tricky question to answer without data, so I did a bit of research —

As you can see, the .com domain is the most trusted domain, registrar. This means that if your audience is going to trust your online-business more if you have a .com domain name.
Additionally, the .com domain ranks #1 in terms of memorability. This means that your audience is going to remember your domain much more if you have a .com domain extension over other domain extensions.
However, other TLDs like .co are not too far behind. In fact, niche specific TLDs like .io would serve better for a technical audience. So, don’t worry if the .com version of your domain name isn’t available.
Bottom line
